Case studies on actions concerning origin-linked quality
Objectives:
- to collect information on local experience regarding various types of product in various contexts and geographical regions;
- to analyse advantages, constraints and success factors regarding actions on origin-linked quality;
- to understand problems and needs;
- to develop recommendations on the basis of lessons learned.
Case studies were selected on the basis firstly of the type of product and area, in order to examine a range of situations, and secondly of the stage reached in establishing the requirements for official recognition (through a geographical indication, appellation of origin or trademark).
The studies were carried out with consultants familiar with the local context and the product, and in collaboration with partners:
- in Latin America: with the Inter-American Institute for Cooperation on Agriculture (IICA);
- in Eastern Europe: with AGRIDEA and SEEDEV (organizations for rural development in Switzerland and southeastern European countries);
- in the Mediterranean: with the FAO Programme on Mountain Products.
- in Asia: with the FAO Regional office for Asia and Pacific.
